My Hydrating, AM Health Kick

This is my go-to morning beverage every morning (after my maté, of course) for a plethora of reasons… First being that I actually crave it on the reg.  Also, when I’m craving a second cup of something warm in the morning it totally does the trick.  It’s super hydrating and super quick to make – win win!

1/2 lemon

Generous sprinkle (or two) of turmeric

Generous sprinkle (or two, if you’re feeling bold) of cayenne pepper

  • Add all ingredients to a large mason jar filled with warm water and stir, or shake, well. That’s it!  If you need a little sweetener added (I’ll admit my sister was a bit taken aback when she first tried the concoction) add a dash honey or agave.

Benefits:

Cayenne pepper: kick starts your metabolism, acts as an anti-irritant and anti-fungal, aides in digestion, relieves joint pain, normalizes blood pressure levels, and increases the pulse of our lymphatic and digestive rhythms which streamlines the process of detoxification. When combined with lemon and honey, cayenne provides a total body detox!

Turmeric: considered one of the world’s healthiest foods, this herb has long been used in the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. It also relieves symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), relieves symptoms of depression, relieves symptoms of arthritis, improves insulin sensitivity which can help reverse type 2 diabetes, and aides in regulating cholesterol levels.

Warm water with lemon: flushes out toxins, balances PH levels in the body, aids in digestion and encourages production of bile, calcium and oxygen levels in the liver, relieves heartburn, reduces pain and inflammation and is a rich source of nutrients like calcium, potassium, vitamin C and pectin fiber. Lemon water also has medicinal values and antibacterial properties and can help alleviate symptoms of the common cold.
