I’ve got a few go-to’s when I feel a cold coming on: high doses of Glutathione and Vitamin D (immune modulators), Grapefruit Seed Extract (antibacterial), lots and lots of water + minerals (hydration), a big pot of soup (more on that later), and making sure I sweat (detox). Getting the body moving always helps me to feel better both in the moment and the following day. It doesn’t have to be anything vigorous; sometimes I get in a hike and sometimes it’s just a walk in the sunshine. I’ve put together a quick flow that you can do at home (preferably in the sun!) to help your body stay healthy during cold season.
Balasana (Childs Pose) :: relaxes muscles in the front of the body including chest, opens the back of the body to allow for increased oxygenation, calms the mind, releases fatigue, increases blood circulation, invigorates the body.
Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) :: stimulates and invigorates heart, opens the chest to allow for increased air flow and clearing in the passages of the heart and lungs, improves circulation of blood and oxygen, elevates mood, relieves fatigue, helps to ease symptoms of asthma.
Utkatasana (Chair Pose) :: stimulates heart and diaphragm and abdominal organs, improves overall balance, reduces stress, improves breathing, leads to greater feelings of wellness.
Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (Hand to Big Toe Pose) :: helps you to feel fresh and healthy, cures acidity and indigestion, relieves stress, recharges the body and leaves you feeling invigorated.
Trikonasana (Triangle Pose / Revolved Triangle Pose) :: opens side bodies aiding in deeper breathing, opens heart and upper body for increased oxygenation, heals internal organs. When twisting it aids in elimination of toxins.
Masyasana (Fish Pose) :: helps you to sleep better, alleviates stress, releases pressure from the chest, eases chronic fatigue by improving thyroid function, opens the front of the body, enhances melatonin production.
Bhandasana (Bridge Pose) :: stimulates lungs and thyroid glands and abdominal organs, improves circulation of blood, alleviates stress, opens the torso to allow for increased airflow, relieves headaches and fatigue, relieves symptoms of asthma, calms the central nervous system.
